President's Message

Hello, everyone,

Since I agreed to serve as HCC president, it occurred to me that some of you might be wondering what my qualifications are for such a position.  In fact, I’ve been wondering myself.  So to give you some idea of my experience, like most people, I started cycling as a kid, growing up in England, and rode my bike to school every day from age 11.  It was only a couple of miles each way, but required riding in traffic, in rain and in the dark, and sometimes in all three at once, on a heavy bike with a three-speed hub gear.

HIKERS PITCH IN ON TARRYWILE TRAILS

The smell of freshly dug earth hung in the air Saturday as Stephen Hull and Brian Scharlach worked at laying water bars at the bottom of the Orange Trail at Tarrywile Park. Hull, of the New England Mountain Bike Association, and Scharlach, of Hat City Cyclists, were two of the 25 volunteers who turned out at Tarrywile to take part in National Trails Day.
